#Follow | Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor: We welcome South Africa’s approach to the International Court of Justice to prevent an unprecedented massacre in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. We stress the importance of this request, which came as part of South Africa’s follow-up and response to the dangerous developments taking place in the sector, especially Rafah Governorate, the last haven for displaced people. South Africa's request would highlight that Israel has violated all precautionary measures previously ruled by the International Court of Justice, through which Tel Aviv was obligated to prevent and not commit genocide in the Gaza Strip. The request of the Republic of South Africa would create a real opportunity for the International Court of Justice to carry out its role in protecting the Palestinians in Gaza from the acts of genocide committed by “Israel” against them, and to push it to take new precautionary measures that will have a practical impact, including a ceasefire. Instead of facilitating the arrival of aid into the Gaza Strip, Israel has escalated its measures to restrict the arrival of this aid, and all residents of the Gaza Strip now suffer from severe acute food insecurity. We documented an increase in deaths resulting from hunger, malnutrition, or related diseases in the Strip. We warn that the "Israeli" military attacks have already begun against Rafah, and that the genocide has affected it with killing, starvation, and deprivation of health services. We documented the killing of about 280 people by the occupation army in Rafah, including about 155 children and women, and the destruction of about 220 housing units there, either completely or partially, since the issuance of the International Court of Justice decision on January 26 of last year. The humanitarian aid that arrived in Rafah Governorate did not meet the urgent and catastrophic humanitarian need facing the Palestinians there.
